Business and Humanity

BUSINESS AND HUMANITY are what I’m thinking about.

– How do I treat and care for my fellow man in my work and all I do daily?

– Where can I do better and create positive change and be just to all that is?

– How fair am I to other people’s needs and what they deserve from me?

– How much empathy, respect, and even love do I have and choose to give?

The ghost Jacob Marley (a favorite character of mine) was the business partner to the infamous Ebenezer Scrooge and the voice of author Charles Dickens in his novella — A Christmas Carol.

Once, Jacob Marley had indifference and complete lack of concern about poverty, injustice, and his fellow man’s well-being. His spirit was doomed to roam the earth, chained to his regret, shame, and neglect with cash boxes and ledger books.

The truth, the gut-wrenching anguish of his words, always inspires me to focus on what my real business here on earth is:

“Business! Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence were all my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business.”

How do you treat Business and Humanity?

Thanks — Michael (he,him)
